Something to Celebrate

Nestled in amongst the many certifications we proudly tout on our packaging, our B Corp certification is something to celebrate. Certifications like USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, and Fairtrade signal that the product you hold in your hand was produced without synthetic chemicals or genetic engineering, and that the people who helped to produce it received fair pay for their work.

B Corp certification is like a Fair Trade or USDA Organic certification, but for the whole business, not just the product. This certification signals that the business behind that product has committed to practices that elevate and support workers, the community and the environment, a concept also referred to as the "Triple Bottom Line."

In a world fraught with corporate greed and clever “greenwashing” marketing schemes designed to mislead consumers, B Corp certification is a breath of fresh air, and a path forward towards a future that harms no one and benefits all.

What Exactly is a B Corp?

B Corps are for-profit businesses that are leading a global movement of people using business as a force for good.

To become certified, each B Corp must undertake a comprehensive and rigorous assessment provided by the independent nonprofit B Lab. The B Impact Assessment measures a company’s impact on workers, communities, and the environment. The assessment, while certainly not easy to complete, is an essential tool in many company’s mission of creating positive impact for all stakeholders.

Every two years, B Corps must take the assessment again and achieve a minimum of 80 points out of the 200 possible to achieve recertification. As of 2017, we are proud to announce that our B Corp recertification score reached 120!

Each B Corp must meet a legal requirement to bake the company’s mission into its legal DNA. For ORGANIC INDIA, it means that our business decisions must always be made through the lens of our mission to be a vehicle of love and consciousness in the global market by creating a holistic sustainable business modality, which inspires, promotes and supports true wellness and respect for all beings and for Mother Nature.

Why did ORGANIC INDIA become a B Corp?

We became a Certified B Corporation because we believe in the importance of committing to higher levels of transparency in business. We are honored to be a part of a like-minded community of businesses that believe in sustainability, ethical sourcing, and the well-being of people and the planet.

As a Certified B Corp, we are able to benchmark our performance against other sustainable businesses and identify areas where our business can have an even bigger impact. The B Corp movement is putting theory into action by setting an objective standard for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

ORGANIC INDIA believes in the B Corp movement because it is consistent with our founding principles. From our inception, we have sought a better way to do business and to create a positive impact for our workers, our communities, and our environment.

ORGANIC INDIA strives to be the change we seek in the world – B Corp Certification is how we prove it.

Quotes from our CEO Kyle Garner:

“We originally pursued becoming a certified B Corp as a way to codify for ourselves the mission that this company has had from the very beginning. Before anybody here knew what a B Corp was, or before anybody was talking about Corporate Social Responsibility, ORGANIC INDIA was living that from the day that it was founded."

“It really has become an opportunity for us to not only document and remind ourselves of the great things we have been doing for the past twenty years but probably more importantly, stretch ourselves and push ourselves further in the areas that are important to us, which is how we treat our workers, how we treat the communities where we live and work, what we’re doing for the environment, and how we’re operating the business and governing the business in a way that is really impactful to all of our stakeholders, not just the financial shareholders."

“ORGANIC INDIA is passionate about the B Corp movement because it demonstrates that business can be a force for good to solve the world’s most challenging problems.”
