What is Regenerative Agriculture?
Regenerative agriculture is a sub-sector of organic farming that regenerates unhealthy soils and builds upon soil fertility, in order to protect and restore the earth.
Regenerative agricultural practices go beyond organic and sustainable agriculture, by regenerating the soil, land, and surrounding ecosystem in order to restore vibrant health to the environment.
Simply put, we put in more than we take out.
Regenerative Agriculture Raises the Bar
In the 1970s, Robert Rodale, founder of Rodale Instititue, coined the term “regenerative organic agriculture,” to describe a type of farming that reaches beyond sustainability, not merely maintaining the health of the land, but regenerating and improving upon it—building the Earth’s capacity to support vibrant, thriving ecosystems.
Regenerative agriculture describes farming systems that not only avoid toxic chemical inputs, as in organic farming, but also regenerate the soil through composting, crop rotation, cover cropping, and minimizing tillage. Regenerative agriculture practices improve soil health, promote global biodiversity, and increase the potential of soils to store excess carbon.
Rather than depleting resources, regenerative agriculture improves upon the land and rejuvenates resources for the future.
Beyond the Soil
Beyond healing the soil, regenerative farming practices sequester carbon (cooling the earth), produce greater yields under stressful conditions, and improve human health, regenerating not only farmlands, but entire communities.
Regenerative farming practices enable our Earth’s largest carbon reservoir – the soil – to absorb and store carbon, of which we currently have a serious atmospheric excess.
The Earth’s soil contains 2.6 times more carbon than its atmosphere. However, conventional agricultural practices release carbon into the air, rather than keeping it sequestered for atmospheric health and soil fertility. It is estimated that cultivated soils worldwide have lost 50-70% of their initial carbon stock, contributing to rising carbon levels and subsequent climate change.
Industrial agricultural practices release carbon into the air by destroying topsoil and the essential biological functions contained within. Healthy soil is a dynamic environment that hosts billions of tons of microbial biomass that contribute to nutrient and water content, as well as the soil’s ability to sequester carbon.
Recent global farming studies suggest that by adopting regenerative agriculture practices, we could begin to reverse the greenhouse effect over time.

These practices help to revive the local ecosystem through carbon sequestration and improved water and soil conditions, ultimately impacting the health of our global ecosystem.
We also aim to return to the ancient practice of following the rhythms of nature, such as planting and harvesting according to lunar and other natural cycles. Many Indian farming traditions (Vrishka Ayurveda) were lost after the introduction of industrialized agriculture. We offer traditional and regenerative farming practices to our farmers that strengthen their communities and their faith in tradition.
